Federal agency customers are required to buy environmentally-friendly products whenever possible. Executive Order 13514 requires 95% of new contracts to contain recycled content and sustainable materials. GSA has a goal of increasing the number of sustainable products on its schedules from 41,000 to 250,000 by the end of FY 2015.

Government contractors will have to track their greenhouse gas emissions or risk losing out on new contracts, under a new General Services Administration plan. The requirement, which could take effect in fiscal 2011 or 2012, is a tall order: Few companies currently track their emissions.

GSA recently revised their GSA Order ADM 4800.2F, Eligibility to Use GSA Sources of Supply and Services. GSA’s revision incorporates all of the recent changes in the State and Local Government’s access to the GSA Schedules. It also has updated the list of agencies that are authorized. Since it had been many years since GSA last updated the list, it is a good time to review it.
